Such infections are most commonly seen on the skin around the nose, trunk, arms, legs and pelvic area.

The fact that impetigo is most common in children across the world makes it all the more important for us to understand the various causes of impetigo.

Information on impetigo causes

Foremost, the most common impetigo causes come in the form of two highly contagious strains of bacteria. Named as the Staphylococcus aureus (S. Aureus or staph) and the Streptococcus pyogenes (group A strep), these bacteria form the primary cause of impetigo, which can basically occur in various forms of infection, ranging from mild to very severe. Streptococcus causes impetigo much less than Staphylococcus.

Such bacteria are most likely to affect the skin which is already broken, irritated or injured due to any other disease or skin problem.

Talking of common impetigo causes, impetigo can also occur because of other skin conditions. Some of these conditions include: Acne and Eczema Apart from such common skin conditions, there could be other impetigo causes as well, such as:

• Poison ivy stings, Insect bites, Chickenpox, Viral rashes, Burns, Cuts, Scrapes

Since impetigo is a contagious condition, you can also get it from direct physical contact with an affected individual. This impetigo cause is most commonly relevant for children since they are highly prone to infection and often have open sores as well as contact with other children.

Children can easily get impetigo if they’ve suffered from a cold or an allergy or any such condition that would have made their skin raw.

Interestingly, impetigo can erupt even in individuals who otherwise seem to have a perfectly normal and healthy skin.
