Psoriasis Causes

The Cause of Psoriasis

A person with psoriasis has skin cells that mature five times faster than normal skin cells. So in actual fact, the body is making too much skin!

These extra cells then pile up on top of each other, causing white, silvery slithers. So why do these cells behave in this manner? What causes Psoriasis?

Psoriasis Causes

It is believed that genes and other triggers play a huge role in Psoriasis, but the actual cause of psoriasis is not really known. Researches presume that psoriasis is prompted when something causes the immune system to over react.

The immune system response seems to be one of the main causes of Psoriasis. Persons, who have been given drugs to suppress the immune system, often see an improvement in Psoriasis symptoms.

How are genes to blame for Psoriasis?

The Genetic Causes of Psoriasis

Researchers do not believe that Psoriasis depends much on hereditary factors; In fact, most people with Psoriasis do not have a relative with the same problem.

So then how are genes to blame?

It can be brought on by genetic changes that can happen due to chemicals that might be missing in DNA, or misshapen and/or misplaced proteins. These problems then cause T cells to become overactive. These gene mutations can then be set off by certain triggers.

What are the triggers?

Things that Cause Psoriasis Symptoms to Worsen

The triggers will vary from person to person, but most commonly they consist of: stress, medication, infections and injuries.

The psychological causes of psoriasis need to be dealt with, as most have found that keeping a check on emotional well-being is key to managing Psoriasis.

Psoriasis sufferers often experience worse symptoms, when they have an injury, or following vaccinations, insect bites, sunburns or cuts/scrapes.

There are specific medications that can cause psoriasis flare-ups including: Lithium, Antimalarial meds, high blood pressure meds, heart meds and some inflammatory drugs.

Some psoriasis sufferers may experience a flare up during any infections such as Strep throat or Thrush. The psoriasis symptoms in these cases, usually calm down when the infection is treated.

Some other triggers include allergic reactions, diet, dry and cold weather conditions, smoking and/or the misuse of alcohol.
