Persons with wheat allergies usually experience symptoms within the first few hours or minutes of eating wheat. You can outgrow a wheat allergy, it does not necessarily stay with you for life.

●    Breathing difficulty.

●    Problems in swallowing.

●    May have a paleness to the skin.

●    Feeling faint or lightheaded.

●    Fast pulse.
 
Tips for Wheat Allergies

See a doctor and ask about other grains.  Some of the wheat proteins that can cause a reaction are gluten, barley, rye and oats.  Ask a doctor and make sure they are safe to eat.

Check on the label, all foods that do not contain wheat must state that on the label.

Wheat is not necessarily found in the kitchen,  it can be found in places like wreaths and garlands as decorations. So be aware that these might affect you as well.

Experiment while you bake. If a recipe calls for wheat flour, substitute with potato starch flour, corn flour, rice flour or soy flour. whichever one gives you the best taste.

Living with Wheat Allergies

There is no cure for Wheat allergies, but there is a way to manage it. Avoiding wheat and being prepared for any future reactions is a must.

If you go to see a doctor and you had a reaction or the doctor thinks you might have one in the future, your doctor will propose an epinephrine auto-injection called an EpiPen.  Essentially you have to carry it around at all times.

Because there is a growing market for gluten free foods there are more and more products available to choose from. Most of the grocery stores or health foods stores carry many gluten free products. Many cities have gluten free bakeries.  It is even possible to buy gluten free beer.
