DIY Avocado Face Mask Recipes

Your skin is the largest organ of the body and it's appearance is important for the overall look of any individual. It is, therefore, imperative that you take proper care of your skin. More importantly, your facial skin, as it is more exposed to the external environment than any other body part. 

Applying an avocado mask, provides your skin with nourishment and healing. Depending on your skin ailment, you can prepare an individual avocado face mask recipe, to remedy different concerns or ailments. 

The following avocado face mask recipes can remedy ailments such as acne and aging signs. They are bound to leave your skin and hair glowing. The preparations are simple and the ingredients are easily available. 

Avocado skin care is cheap, simple and best of all it smells and tastes delicious! ;-)

Avocados contain a substantial amount of essential nutrients, minerals and anti-oxidants. Avocados are not only good to eat, but they can be used to remedy skin ailments as well as make your skin look and feel amazing!

Before applying any of the treatments listed here, first make sure that you have removed any makeup. Using these DIY treatments after a hot shower is advised.  

Before and after your face mask

• Cleanse your skin with a natural cleanser and steam your face to open the pores before applying your mask.

• Get a few cucumber slices to place on your eyes while using your avocado mask. Keep the avocado away from the eye areas. 

 • Use a natural moisturizer such as Avocado oil or Jojoba oil after using your face mask, if you feel that your skin needs extra moisturizing. 

The Benefits and Uses

  • They do not come with chemical side effects. 
  • They are affordable and the ingredients are easily available. An avocado face mask is quick and easy to make. 
  • Natural preparations are often more effective than over the counter ones. 
  • Avocado facial mask recipes are great for persons with sensitive skin, as it is soothing. 
  • Avocado oil benefits the skin. It contains high amounts of essential vitamins and nutrients. This oil penetrates the skin well and is rich in lecithin and potassium, which is very good for anti-aging. It contains vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin D, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and vitamin K, and is rich in essential unsaturated fatty acids. Amongst the many health benefits of avocado oil, it can be used as a topical skin treatment, and in food recipes to promote skin health.
  • Moisturizer – One of the best benefits of avocado oil for skin, is that it makes a very nice moisturizer. The humectants hydrate. Apply as a night cream and wash off the next morning. It absorbs at a slower rate than off the shelf night creams, but penetrates quite deep, and leaves the skin soft and smooth.  An avocado face mask is a nice way to enjoy the benefits of avocado for your skin. Avocados are rich in amino acids and proteins which will heal, nourish and hydrate. You can use avocado oil on your entire body. Just rub some oil all over after a shower. This will especially help to soften harder areas, such as your knees, heals and elbows.
  • Dry Scalp – It is absorbed deep into the scalp and locks in moisture, removing old dry skin and treating dandruff. You can add it to your shampoo, or do a deep conditioning treatment. It works wonders as a sealant. Massage some into your scalp before a shower or bath and allow to draw in. Just pour some on and rub into your scalp and hair. Leave on for 15 minutes before shampooing and rinsing. Your hair and scalp will love you for it! For an extra shine, you can mix an egg yolk into the avocado oil. 
  • Anti Aging – The anti aging avocado oil benefits are due to the vitamin E in the oil. Vitamin E is a very strong free radical fighting anti-oxidant. An interesting fact, is that avocado has the highest amount of vitamin E when compared to other fruits (approximately 2.1mg per 100g). Avocado will make you Look Younger

You can benefit from this by applying it topically and/or by including it in your daily diet. Avos attribute their abilities to their abundance in Vitamin H, B7, A & E and a very special molecular structure called Sterolins, which can boost collagen production.
  • Age Spots & Sun Spots – To use avocado oil for skin age or dry sun spots, mix with castor oil, one teaspoon avocado and one teaspoon castor. Apply to any age / sun spots and allow to soak for twenty minutes, and then rinse with lukewarm water. The Sterolin in the the oil penetrates deep. Rich source of vitamins and Lecithin, which helps get rid of dark spots. 
  • Eye Cream – Apply a little oil under your eye to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. The oil is absorbed deep into the skin and rejuvenates the skin and eliminates free radicals, leaving the skin soft and smooth with daily use.
  • Eczema – Avocado Oil relieves the dryness, swelling and itching associated with eczema. The anti-inflammatory agent reduces irritation. Applying some natural avo oil to the area will help to heal and hydrate. I have eczema on my hands and I love to apply avocado oil and coconut oil to my hands daily. It does make a huge difference. I can also add that a daily supplement of Omega 3, 6 and 9 oils also help.  
  • Avocado oil for Acne – Avocado oil reduces inflammation and moisturizes the skin. This oil cleans out the blocked pores, thus reducing black heads and pimples. It promotes the regeneration of skin cells and leaves the skin soft and supple, and reduces acne scars this way.  The oil of an avocado is very similar to your own skin’s oil and will therefore not clog your pores. Avocado oil is also absorbed quickly and completely when applied.
  • Avocado oil will protect you from the sunNot only will it protect you from the sun, but it can actually heal sunburnt skin. It is naturally soothing too.
  • Avos has been shown to strengthen nails if used on a regular basis.
  • Use Avocado as a Stubble / Rasor Burn Remedy. You can use mashed avo as a shaving cream and avoid all the harmful over-the-counter products that cause pimples and ingrown hairs

Avocado Face Mask Recipes

Honey and Avocado Face Mask

This is an avocado mask for dry skin, to leave your skin glowing. The ingredients include: 

  • A ripe medium sized avocado. 
  • A tablespoon of honey. 

Directions for preparation and use

Mash the avocado in a bowl and add the honey into the same bowl. Keep mashing, until it is a smooth paste. Apply the paste evenly to your skin and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Pat your face with a dry towel to dry. Repeat this occasionally, at least once every two weeks, until you observe desired results.  

NB: This mask is also ideal as an avocado hair mask. The directions also apply, but you will apply it to your hair. It boosts growth of healthy hair and nourishes your scalp. 

Four amazing DIY honey face mask recipes

Egg and Avocado Face Mask

This face mask recipe works great as an avocado face mask for acne. The required ingredients include: 

  • A medium sized avocado. 
  • 1 egg white. 
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice.  

Directions for preparation and use

Mash the avocado in a bowl. Add the egg white and lemon juice into the bowl. Keep mashing until you create a smooth paste. Apply the paste evenly to your skin and let it sit for about 15 minutes. NB: Ensure that it does not come into contact with your eyes. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Pat your face with a dry towel. Repeat this occasionally, at least once a week until you observe desired results. 

Oatmeal and Avocado Face Mask

This face mask recipe is ideal for persons with dry skin, as it acts as a moisturizer and seeks to restore skin that is damaged. The ingredients: 

  • A medium sized avocado. 
  • ½ cup of oatmeal.  

Directions for preparation and use

Start by cooking the oatmeal in a pan (cooking instructions are on the package). Mash the avocado in a bowl. Mix the two to create a smooth paste. Apply it on your skin and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Pat your skin with a dry towel. Repeat this occasionally, at least once in two weeks, until you observe desired results.

DIY Avocado Mask Recipes

Refreshing Avocado and Cucumber Face Mask

  • ½ Ripe avo
  • Two slices of cucumber.
  • Mash the avo and apply to your face. Have a lie down and place the cucumber slices on your eye lids. Leave on for as long as your nap lasts ;-) Rinse off and patt dry. Enjoy a softer more supple skin.

Avocado Aloe Hydration Treatment

  • ½ Ripe avo mashed.
  • 1 tbsp of aloe vera
  • Mix the two ingredients and apply to skin. Leave on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse off and patt dry. This is excellent for treating dehydrated skin.

Make your own Natural Avocado Hand Scrub.

  • ½ Avocado mashed
  • 1 tbsp. of lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp of fine brown sugar
  • Mix the ingredients together and massage into your hands gently. 

The lemon juice will remove stains from your nails while the sugar exfoliates and the avo hydrates. Rinse off without using soap.

DIY Avocado facial cleanser

  • ½ mashed avocado
  • 6 tbsp of organic almond milk
  • Mix the ingredients together. Use as a face wash. 

This is perfect for dry skin types. If you have an oily skin you can use this recipe, but I recommend that you don’t use a moisturizer after this.

Avocado Acne Treatment

  • ½ Mashed avo
  • 1 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp of honey

The honey is antibacterial, the lemon juice is healing and the avo removes dirt and oil, replacing it with good oil and moisture. Mix all the ingredients together and apply topically. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off. This treatment can be done daily.

Plain Avocado Mask.

(Can also be used as an avocado hair mask.)

  • Use a half ripe avocado. 
  • Mash the avocado to a pulp; apply to your face and neck (and even your hair, if you need a hair treatment.) Leave on for at least 15 minutes, longer if you can. Wash off with cool water. Pat dry.

Avocado dry skin mask recipes

Avocado and olive oil mask 

  • ½ ripe Avo with one teaspoon olive oil.
  • Smooth the avo and add your olive oil, mix well and apply. Can be left on for 15 minutes then rinsed off. 

Avocado banana moisture mask

  • You will need one small, ripe banana and ½ ripe avo
  • Mash the two together and if you can, make a smooth paste with a mixer. Apply to face and neck areas, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off with cool water.

For persons with an oily, acne prone skin

Avocado honey mask

  • ½ ripe Avo mashed with a teaspoon of raw (warmed) honey.
  • Make a smooth paste with a mixer. Apply to face and neck areas, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off with cool water.

Avocado and orange/lemon juice

This mask doesn’t just moisturize and clean the skin, but will remove old skin cells. 

  • ½ ripe mashed avo with ½ tsp of lemon or orange juice. 
  • Make a smooth paste with a mixer. Apply to face and neck areas, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off with cool water.

Cucumber and avocado face mask recipe

  • ¼ cucumber with ½ ripe avocado. Place in blender and mix until smooth.
  • Same method as above

Pineapple and avocado mask

  • Use 1 slice of pineapple with ½ avo. Blend in mixer till smooth paste. 
  • Same method as above.
