(Lake George, NY, USA)
I am 37 years old. I have had what has been called eczema behind my left ear since I was a baby. It has gotten worse as I have aged. The split in the skin goes from the top to the bottom.
It looks like my ear can come off. Or be used as a gill like Kevin Costner had in Water World. It is scaly, painful, itchy and weeps on and off 24/7.
I saw a dermatologist several years ago and she prescribed a psoriasis cream. I went home and gently cleaned the area before application of the cream.
Luckily my husband was right there to help because when I touched that cream to the open area behind my ear I dropped to my knees, screaming in pain.
My husband grabbed a washcloth and turned the cold water on. He had to pat it with a cold cloth for over 10 minutes. I was shaking I was in such horrible pain. Afterwards he noticed the whole side of my face was red and splotchy. I took Benadryl assuming it was a terrible reaction.
After several hours the signs of allergic reaction were going away. My ear was on fire still, so tender I slept in a chair because I was so affraid I would roll over onto my ear.
I have suffered so very long and I am honestly petrified to seek any doctors "help." Insights?
