Itchy skin
by: Zelda Behr

Itchy skin can be a very uncomfortable thing.

First thing to remember is to not scratch as this will just increase the itch and can lead to other skin problems.

Probable reasons for itchy skin...

* Bathing in water that is too hot.

* Dry skin.

* Skin conditions like: Eczema, Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Urticaria and Rosea

* Other diseases: Diabetes and itchy skin is a common problem, Hyperthyroidism, Liver cirrhosis, Hepatitis, Leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, Anemia, Hormonal fluctuations.

* Stress

* Certain bath products.

* Medication: Vicodin, morphine, codeine and aspirin.

Remedies for itch...

* Use a fragrance and colorant free moisturizer after bathing.

* Pat rather than rubbing your skin dry.

* Use soft towels.

* Do not use harsh washing powders and softeners, set your washing machine to a extra rinse cycle.

* Try washing with oatmeal soap here is how to make your own...

* Things you can add to your bath water to relieve (choose only one or two of these at a time) evaporated milk, lemon juice, cornstarch, peppermint, yellow dock, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, cup of white vinegar, 1 cup baking powder, 2 cups of finely ground oatmeal, baking soda.

* Things that can be applied on the itchy dry skin: Aloe Vera, cod liver oil, fresh lemon juice, vitamin E oil, wheat germ oil, Witch hazel, fresh stinging nettle oil, Burdock root oil, coconut oil, Neem oil, St Johns Wort, Calendula Essential Oil

* Things that can be taken in capsule form (please first consult your doctor if you are on medication before taking these): Burdock, chickweed, Goldenseal, Plantain, Yellow Dock, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc

Here is more on this...

NOTE: I am not a medical doctor my advice is just informational, if symptoms persist consult your doctor.

Hope this helps.
